How Does a Car Park Smoke Exhaust System Work?
A car park smoke-control system is not a single fan. Jet fans, main exhaust fans, make-up air paths, dampers and controls operate together according to the same fire scenario.
What is the main purpose of the system?
The objective is to control smoke movement and guide it toward designated exhaust points instead of allowing uncontrolled spread through the car park. The design is developed to support escape and firefighting conditions.
What do jet fans do?
Jet fans create momentum that directs air and smoke without a full duct network. Their position, discharge direction and operating sequence are determined according to the car park geometry.
What does the main smoke exhaust fan do?
Main exhaust fans remove the smoke that has been guided toward extraction points. Airflow, pressure capability and fire-temperature performance must match the system design.
Why is make-up air required?
As air is extracted, controlled replacement air helps maintain the intended flow direction. Openings or mechanical supply systems are therefore considered together with the exhaust strategy.
Why is the control sequence critical?
The fire location can determine which jet fans, exhaust fans and dampers operate. Fan selection and control logic should therefore be treated as parts of the same smoke-control design.
